Extension
Saturday 17 December

After a long period without any new computers, PLACS is extending again.

We plan to buy around 200 cores intel and a SMP server with big memory capacity.

The extension should be operational in the course of the first quarter of 2012, and will be synchronized with the move from IRPHE building to Saint-Jerome computers facility building. It will gain some stability in cooling and power supply. So we can hope a better stability of the whole machine in a next future.

Extended storage

The new frontal node is fully operational now. It shouldn’t change anything for users... except for the available disk space.

Welcome to PLACS

PLACS is a scientific platform included in the IM2NP . It is devoted to numerical computation of condensed matter models, in the field of Microelectronics and Nanoelectronics.

This includes:

- Transport in microelectronics devices (e.g. Nanowire Transistors, ...)
- Simulation of nanoscale quantum objects (e.g. quantum dots, ...)
- Growth modeling (e.g. Growth Processes, ...)
- Ab-initio calculations (e.g. diluted magnetic semiconductors, ...)

The platform includes a cluster of relatively thin nodes (Merlin), and it is planned to develop a part with fat nodes in a near future.
