L'équipe « Nano-Structuration, Réactivité et Environnement » (NSRE) multidisciplinaire, compte 5 enseignants-chercheurs (1 PR, 1MC HDR, 3 MC). Grâce à des expertises en sciences des matériaux, physique du solide, chimie inorganique et colloïdale, microscopie électronique, l’objectif principal de l’équipe est l'élaboration de nano-matériaux fonctionnels, capables d’interagir avec leur environnement.
L’équipe NSRE concentre sa recherche sur la mise au point de nouveaux matériaux sensibles dont les propriétés de détection de polluants et/ou de dépollution sont exaltées par les effets de taille, de structuration, ou des effets synergétiques dans le cas de matériaux nanohybrides. Le développement de matériaux destinés à la détection ou à la remédiation de pollution est très pertinent en termes d’ancrage territorial, au vu des activités de l’aire toulonnaise. Nos travaux s’intègrent parfaitement à l’axe de recherche Sciences de la Mer, Environnement et Développement Durable de l'Université de Toulon.
L'équipe s'intéresse plus particulièrement :
Les nanostructurations étudiées concernent principalement des assemblages de nanoparticules, en des géométries 3D obtenues par voie chimique en utilisant des surfactants, qui permettent à la fois de contrôler la taille et la forme des nanocristaux ainsi que leur auto-organisation. Les propriétés de détection/photo-catalyse des nanoparticules peuvent ainsi être modulées via le contrôle de leur forme géométrique i.e. cubes, bâtonnets, octaèdres…
Dans le cas de matériaux en contact avec des gaz ou des liquides, la nanostructuration permet également une meilleure circulation des fluides et donc un surcroît du nombre de sites actifs accessibles comparé à des nanoparticules qui auront tendance à s'agglomérer.
Une autre voie d’obtention de matériaux sensibles mise en œuvre au sein de l’équipe NSRE consiste en l’assemblage de matériaux hybrides (métal/oxyde), afin de renforcer les propriétés des deux types de matériaux par couplage aux interfaces, ou faire émerger de nouvelles propriétés. Ce type de méso-nanohybrides donne d’excellents résultats en photo-catalyse (dépollution en milieu aquatique). Ces assemblages sont aussi envisagés pour la détection de gaz à des niveaux de concentration très faibles (ppm et sub ppm) et à basse température. Pour ces applications, des voies de synthèse originales permettant d’obtenir des nanoparticules métalliques supportées de taille, de morphologie et d’état de surface contrôlés, sont mises au point.
A plus long terme, l’équipe souhaite s’orienter vers l’élaboration de films, par voie chimique, d’oxydes mésoporeux, nanostructurés ou hybrides, afin d’aller vers l’intégration de ces matériaux dans des dispositifs dédiés à la détection de gaz et à la dépollution.

Réacteurs de synthèse chimique (sol gel, Autoclaves …), spin-coating, CVD-Aérosol, fours, spectroscopie IRTF, spectroscopie de masse, spectroscopie UV-Vis, spectroscopie d'impédance électrique en température et sous atmosphères contrôlées, cellules de détection et mesures électrique sous gaz, microbalances à quartz, réacteurs et cellule catalytiques (en quartz).
Microscope électronique en transmission 200 kV ST (FEI), avec caméra ultra rapide et détecteur EDS.
