L’équipe MCI comprend 15 permanents d’AMU (H/F : 36% F, 64% H). Elle a choisi d’organiser sa nouvelle politique de recherche autour de la mesure et la surveillance en environnement spécifique ou sévère (air extérieur, air intérieur, milieu nucléaire). Ses activités se déclinent suivant trois thématiques. La première concerne les microsystèmes pour l’environnement et le bâtiment. La deuxième porte sur des microsystèmes thermiques pour le nucléaire. La dernière thématique en plein essor correspond à la conception de microsystèmes dédiés à la santé. Ces trois thématiques reposent sur des expertises allant de l’étude et de l’élaboration des couches sensibles (organiques ou inorganiques) à la réalisation de micro-dispositifs sur supports rigides ou souples. La conception et la mise en œuvre de ces dispositifs nécessitent la maîtrise des propriétés des matériaux (électriques, thermiques, nucléaires et physicochimiques), du conditionnement du capteur et du signal, des incertitudes de mesures, du bruit et du traitement des données. L’optimisation de la réponse des capteurs (sensibilité, sélectivité, fidélité), leur validation en conditions réelles et la fiabilité des systèmes, reposent sur le savoir-faire historique de l’équipe (conception de dispositifs, caractérisations, dépôts de couches minces, spectroscopie de bruit, métrologie, développement de bancs spécifiques). Ces activités associées à des moyens expérimentaux propres sont supportées par des travaux de modélisation et de simulation numérique. L’équipe est par ailleurs impliquée dans le LIMMEX (Laboratoire d'Instrumentation et de Mesures en Milieux Extrêmes, laboratoire commun CEA/AMU/CNRS), en termes de coordination scientifique et de programmes de recherche.
Le point fort de l’équipe est son expertise pour répondre à un besoin croissant de la société en conception de capteurs spécifiques (gaz, vapeur, thermique, courant, déformation, rayonnements et échauffement nucléaires).
Les travaux de cette thématique portent sur le développement de micro-capteurs de type MOX ou systèmes de micro-capteurs basse consommation, faible coût, nomades, sélectifs, sensibles (gammes ppb – ppm), et fiables pour le suivi de la qualité de l’air extérieur et intérieur (O3, NOX, NH3, CO, CO2, Benzène, Toluène, Ethylbenzène, Xylène, Acétaldéhydes, Formaldéhydes, Isobutylène, Ethanol, Acétone… ). Plus précisément les études menées concernent la recherche de nouveaux matériaux sensibles en couches minces, la réalisation des microcapteurs, les tests de validations en présence de gaz ou de mélanges de gaz sous environnement contrôlé (température, humidité) ainsi que la modélisation des phénomènes d’adsorption. Cette activité se déroule en étroite collaboration avec de nombreux partenaires industriels et académiques
Cette deuxième thématique développée en fort partenariat avec le CEA au travers du laboratoire commun LIMMEX (limmex.org) porte sur la conception de microsystèmes thermiques pour le nucléaire et plus précisément sur des capteurs calorimétriques dédiés à la mesure en ligne de l’énergie déposée par interactions rayonnements/matière (20W.g-1 sous un flux de 5.5 1014 n.cm-2.s-1) au sein de réacteurs d’irradiations de recherche en particulier pour le Réacteur Jules Horowitz). Cette thématique comprend des travaux expérimentaux, analytiques, et numériques en conditions de laboratoire hors milieu nucléaire (caractérisation paramétrique de la réponse des prototypes et leur étalonnage) et en conditions réelles en réacteur nucléaire (qualification et étude du comportement sous irradiations). Ceci constitue un point fort et original.
Ces travaux ont d’ores et déjà permis de proposer un calorimètre innovant CALORRE permettant de diviser par 7 la taille des calorimètres différentiels classiques.
La dernière thématique en plein essor correspond à la conception de microsystèmes dédiés à la santé en privilégiant les méthodes non invasives pour surveiller, mesurer en continu, pré-diagnostiquer et alerter (exemples de paramètres biomédicaux : température corporelle, pulsations cardiaques, taux d’alcoolémie, taux d’acétone, taux de potassium…). Les derniers dispositifs réalisés ont permis de suivre en temps réel le taux d’alcoolémie transcutané ; des essais cliniques ont permis de valider ce principe de détection et de corréler le taux d’alcoolémie sanguin au taux d’alcoolémie à travers la peau.
Dispositifs de dépôts de couches sensibles : bâtis multi cibles de pulvérisation RF magnétron, bâtis d’évaporations, dépôt par SPRAY, spin-coating, plateforme d’impression par jet de matière.
Dispositifs de caractérisations électriques : Bancs de tests automatisés spécifiques en environnement contrôlé (T°, HR%) pour microcapteurs et multicapteurs.
Bancs de génération/dilution et analyse de gaz du ppb au ppm.
Dispositifs de caractérisations physico-chimiques : Spectroscopie IRTF + analyse gaz émis f(T), Ellipsomètre IR, Analyses thermiques hautes performances TG, DSC (Perkin), Microscopie AFM couplée à des mesures de conductivité (Resiscope).
Dispositif de caractérisations de la réponse des calorimètres : Banc d’études stationnaires reproduisant des caractéristiques thermiques et hydrauliques spécifiques d’un canal expérimental du Réacteur RJH (Banc BETHY), banc d’études transitoires (banc BERTRAN) et banc analytique.
