Short Biography
Jean-Michel PORTAL is a full professor in Aix-Marseille University (Polytech Marseille microelectronic and telecommunication departement), and permanent researcher in Institut Materials Microelectronic and Nanoscience of Provence (IM2NP) where he is deputy director of the institute.
He holds a M.Sc. degree in Computer Science (1996) and a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, both from Montpellier University, France (1999). Prior to joining Aix-Marseille University, he was a research associate at Montpellier University, France. Prof. Portal is recipient of the Nanoarch 2012 Best Paper Award, the Newcas 2013 Best Paper Award, 2022 ICMTS Best Paper Award, 2022 VLSI-SoC Best Paper Award and the 2017 IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems Guillemin-Cauer Best Paper Award.
He has been serving as TPC member for many conferences and is reviewer for several journals and funding agencies. He served as Topic chair "Emerging Technologies for Future Memories" for DATE'17-19. He is currently Associate Editor in Frontiers in neuroscience section Neuromorphic Engineering.
The research activities and interests of Prof. Portal are currently focused on the development of novel non-volatile memory solutions and hybrid design based on emerging memories for Neuromorphic and ML applications.
